Mechanic's Assistant

Tom's Backhoe and Excavation is looking for a Mechanic's Assistant to join our team. We work on civil construction projects, excavation, site work, demolition, land clearing, slurry seal, and road striping. We're a locally owned and operated excavation company, and we keep a variety of heavy equipment, trucks, and vehicles running daily to complete these jobs. This role is perfect for someone with hands-on mechanical skills who wants steady work, good pay, and the chance to grow with a trusted company.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist lead mechanics with diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Perform routine services including oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, and battery replacements.
• Retrieve, organize, and manage tools, parts, and supplies.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area, including proper handling and disposal of fluids and used parts.
• Support the team with occasional field service needs and shop maintenance tasks.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience with basic vehicle/equipment maintenance required (oil changes, battery replacements, tire work, fluid checks).
• Strong work ethic and ability to follow instructions carefully.
• Reliable transportation to and from the base yard.
• Safety-first mindset.
• Experience with heavy equipment or diesel trucks is a plus, but not required.
