The Operations Manager oversees the daily operations of Tom's Backhoe & Excavation, ensuring that all projects run safely, efficiently, and profitably. This role is responsible for coordinating manpower, equipment, and materials across multiple divisions - excavation, road striping, septic systems, and sweeping. The Operations Manager serves as the bridge between field crews, project managers, and executive leadership, driving performance, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and allocate crews, operators, and equipment across simultaneous projects.
- Work with project managers to ensure budgets, timelines, and scope requirements are met.
- Oversee mobilization of equipment and materials, minimizing downtime and logistics costs.
- Lead and enforce safety culture across all job sites.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, County of Maui, and State of Hawaii regulations.
- Conduct safety audits, incident reviews, and corrective actions.
- Standardize and enforce company operating procedures (excavation, grading, striping, septic installs, etc.).
- Develop systems to monitor field productivity, production rates, and quality standards.
- Implement process improvements to reduce rework and increase efficiency.
- Track and analyze job costs, production data, and field expenses.
- Support estimating team with accurate historical performance data.
- Approve and manage equipment rentals, purchase orders, and field spending.
- Mentor foremen and crew leads on leadership and management.
- Help develop and oversee training programs for operators and laborers.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and professional growth.
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for field-related project issues.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of heavy civil construction experience (excavation, grading, utilities, or road work) (Nice to have)
- Strong leadership background with proven ability to manage multiple crews/projects.
- Deep knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and logistics.
- Demonstrated ability to control costs and improve production efficiency.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Hawaii driver's license; CDL a plus.
Compensation:
- Full-Time Position
- $30.00 - $40.00 per hour based on experience.

- Monday to Friday schedule (occasional weekends as needed)
